I titled this piece “trendy” because my friend has a great sense of style you don’t really see everyday and this image really just shows his personality. He has a 90s kind of look and I really like that he is unique in the way he shows that. This image was taken on our school campus by our performing arts center. I figure it’d give a ‘tumblr’ feel to the photo if he were to be positioned in front of a storage area. The compositional rule for this image is symmetry. The type of camera used for this photo was a Nikon D5300 and the type of lens was a 50 mm f 1.8.
I created this image using iPhoto. I contrasted the color a bit and gave it a cooler feel to make it a more blue color. I also lightened it up more so that the blue and dark color of his jeans could harmonize altogether. My photograph is in the division Portrait because he is showing his personality and mood. This piece was printed on the Epson P800.

What i learned about portraiture from going to the duck pond is that you have to find a place that isn't too bright because when using a reflector you can hurt someones eyes. I was just having a conversation with Steph and Kaylee to help me decide on my poses because i didn't really have an idea on what to do. It kind of helped but it would've been better if i actually did poses because some and most of my photos that were taken of me were a bit blurry.we used the reflector from a distance on some photograph and it did help because it made the model glow more from the face. I followed all the steps in the video given and did exactly that on two of my models photographs. Some positions that use portrait photography include, freelance photography. They make approximately $26 per hour.
I edited my photos in iPhoto and changed the color to black&white. I dragged a 6 letter template onto photoshop. Then I dragged the photos one by one onto the template. I was scaling it so it can be a perfect fit. Then, I saved my work in the common drive so it could be able to post on here. I was struggling the most on how to get the template onto photoshop because i didn't know where to get it from. I was proud of figuring out how to move the photos around. What I like the most about my artwork how all six pictures can come together and form my name in one photo. I think I could've improved on finding a better "S" for my name.
This is an image of me on the runway. In my ideal day i usually go to different places and pose for a camera. I workout every day to stay in shape and I eat healthy meals. Usually i am always traveling because i do different shoots for designer clothing. I prepare myself the whole year for the biggest fashion show there is and that is the Victorias Secret Fashion Show.
I chose Gigi Hadid as my celebrity because i really look up to how far she has gotten in her modeling career. My best friend Mackenzie and I have always dreamt about becoming professional models and we want to pursue our dreams together. In photoshop i first put in the two images that i needed to use in order to put my face on hers. I used the lasso tool to crop out my fave then used the move tool so drag it onto it. I then used the transform tool to move and scale my face good on the image. After that i started to use the black and white little square tools to erase our faces. After i finished with that i used the color balance and brightness tool to try to match the skin tone as much as possible.

To photograph the moon:
1. Use a tripod! A flat surface will only allow you to shoot straight, and shooting the moon means that you'll be shooting up and constantly re-adjusting the tripod as the moon moves throughout the night.
2. Use a shutter release cord, remote or the camera's self timer if you don't have one, so that you don't move the camera when pressing the shutter release during a long exposure.
3. Use a zoom lens and zoom in as much as you can to the moon. It's okay if it's not a super fancy lens, this was shot using a 15 year old $100 lens. Focus in on the craters and details on the moon.
4. ISO 1250- 1600, so that you can use as fast a shutter speed as you can without losing detail-the longer the shutter speed, the more chances you have the camera will shake even slightly in the wind, resulting in an out of focus photograph.
5. Aperture priority of f/5.6 since you are not worried about capturing any details other then the moon.
6. Bracket your exposure, meaning over expose and underexpose the photograph from what the camera is telling you. Generally the camera will overexpose the moon, so you'll get nothing but a white blob in the sky. Use the exposure compensation button (the +/- button below the shutter release) and change the exposure to -0.5, then -1.0, then -1.5 and so on, until you start seeing detail in the moon. You may go as far as -5.0 exposure compensation to get what you need.
7. Take a fair amount of photos and keep refocusing as the night progresses. The photographs may look focused on the camera's display, but you won't really see if they're completely in focus until you upload them onto your computer screen.
This is a photo of the lunch stands. I am using this photo to represent balance. this photo came out successful because it represents the symmetry of the both doors.
This is a photo of 2 people standing next to each other. The principle within this photograph is proportion. This photo is successful because you can see the difference in height of the 2 people.
This is a photo of a couple of students playing basketball in the courts. I amusing this image to represent rhythm. it came out successful because you can see how they are all trying to race to get the ball and you can see the photo as if it were live because you can tell they are moving back and forth trying to get the ball to their side to make a basket.
This is a photo of my friends eyes. The principle within the photograph is emphasis. I believe this photo is successful because her eye color really pops out and thats the first thing you see when you see this image.
This is a photo of leaves scattered around the floor. It represents harmony. This photo came out successful because you can see the ombre of the leaves from a dark reddish color that turns into a soft dark yellow color.
This is a photo of the bathroom mirrors. i am using this image to represent the principle : variety. This photo came out successful because you can see that there is more than 1 of the same object.
This is a photo of a group of students who are practicing a dance for their class. The principle within the image is unity. I think its successful because we can see the different types of race and color of the students but in a way they all come together.
This is a photo of my partner with his hand in the in the air. I think it came out pretty cool because it's a silhouette of him and within the picture the element being represented is of line. This image is successful because it very well represents line.
This is a photo of yellow flowers in the garden. The element within this photograph is color. This picture came out successful because it the color of the flower is very bright and you can tell right away that the element represented is color.
This is a photo of a tire with plants in the back. The element being represented is shape. This photo came out successful because you can see the shape here which is a circle.
This is a photo of a basketball in the air ,about to go inside the basket. The element being represented if form. This photo is successful because you can see that the basketball is 3-Dimensional.
This is a photo of a medium sized rock on the ground. The element being represented is texture. This photograph is successful because you are able to know the feeling of the rock right away when you see the image because it is so clear.
This is a picture of one of the basketball courts. This image represents space. It is successful because you can clearly see the net and pole along with the rest of the background.
This is a photo of one of the murals we have here on campus. This represents value. It is successful because you can see the darkness due to the shade and tree that was not allowing the sun to clearly shine through.
Elements of art:
Line:
Line-one dimensional and can vary in width, direction, and length. Lines can also define the edges of a form. Lines can be horizontal, vertical,or diagonal, straight or curved, thick or thin. Lines lead your eye around the composition.
Color:
Color has three main characteristics:hue(yellow, red, green), value(how light or dark it is),and intensity(how bright or dull it is), Colors can also be described as warm(red and yellow),or cool (blue and green).
Furthermore,
Monochromatic-one color plus its tints(adding white) and shades(adding black).
Complimentary Colors-colors opposite each other on the color wheel. (ex: green and red).
Analogous Colors-colors next to each other on the color wheel(ex: red and orange).
Shape:
Shape is two-dimensional,with a height and width.
Organic Shape- a shape made by nature. Not completely defined.
Inorganic Shape-manmade;such as triangles and rectangles.
Form:
Form is three dimensional, has height and width and depth.
Photographers emphasize form by the use of highlights and shadows.
Texture:
The surface quality of an object that we sense through touch. All objects have a physical texture(think-horse hair, dolphin smooth).
In a two dimensional work, texture gives a visual sense of how an object depicted would feel in real life if touched.
Space:
Real space is three dimensional. Space in a work of art refers to a feeling of depth or three dimensions. It can also refer to an artist’s use of the area around the picture plane.
Positive Space-the space occupied by the primary object.
Negative Space-the space around the primary object.
Value:
Value is the lightness or darkness of a surface. It is frequently used when talking about shading, but is also important in the study of color.
Principles of Art:
Balance:
Balance is similar to our physical sense of balance. It is how the artist uses opposing forces in a composition that results in visual stability.
Most successful compositions achieve balance in one of two ways:symmetrically (the same on both sides, like a butterfly wing) or asymmetrically.
Proportion:
Proportions relates to the relative size and scale of the various elements in a design. Specifically, the relationship between the objects.
Rhythm:
Rhythm in an artwork indicates movement by the repetition of elements.Rhythm can make an artwork seem active.
Emphasis:
Emphasis is to make one part of an artwork dominant over the other parts. It attracts the viewer’s eyes to a place of special importance in an artwork.
Harmony:
Harmony is the pleasing quality achieved by different elements of a composition interacting to form a whole. Harmony is often accomplished through repetition of the same or similar characteristics. (Joel Meyerowitz)
Variety:
Differences achieved by opposing, contrasting, changing, elaborating, or diversifying elements in a composition to add individualism and interest.
Unity:
Unity is the result of bringing the elements of art into the appropriate ratio between harmony and variety to achieve a sense of oneness. It is the sense that everything works together and looks like it fits.
- The ‘building block’ of design
- all good design will have one or more of these elements; line, color, shape, form, texture, space, and value.
- Could be done through other art methods, such as painting, fashion design, sculpture, etc.
Line:
Line-one dimensional and can vary in width, direction, and length. Lines can also define the edges of a form. Lines can be horizontal, vertical,or diagonal, straight or curved, thick or thin. Lines lead your eye around the composition.

- Used to organize or arrange the structural elements of design.
- Principles are balance, proportion, rhythm, emphasis, harmony, variety, and unity.

Respect
To me respect is more of a way of how you decide to treat and look at yourself personally. For my respect photograph I decided to take a shot of my partner standing on a weight scale. I did this because I wanted to show how so many people are judged based off their weight or how they look. I firmly believe that none of that matters at all. Looks don’t define a person neither does their size. My image shows how my partner is smiling when he steps onto the weight scale. He is happy with who he is.
I was having so much trouble on trying to figure out what I should take a picture of. Then, I thought of the weight room. My partner and I decided to just go see what we could do in there. I picked the weight scale because I know personally one of my cousins has been judged because she is too “skinny." She couldn’t accept herself or the way she looked until she came to a point where she knew that it didn’t matter what people said about her. That’s the way I see the word respect; a word that means you love yourself and others as well whether they like you or not.
Louis-Jacques-Mande Daguerre invented the daguerreotype in 1839. The daguerreotype process starts with a silver-plated copper plate. the plate is first buffed and polished until it looks like a mirror. Then the plate is sensitized to light over iodine and bromine specialized, light proof boxes.
"The Race"
It was a regular day here in the city of Vista. Johnny and Woody (best friends) were talking about their cars and catching up on all the new things they had customized and put in. As they were talking they heard a muffler from another driver who was coming quickly towards them. They began to wonder who this could be. They turned quickly and just stared as this car got closer. They had never seen it before.
Woody spoke into Johnny's ear "Why is this car coming into our spot like this?" The driver in the vehicle was pressing on the gas making smoke come out from the back of his car. The driver was playing music so loud that the boys couldn't hear themselves. They began to get furious considering it was their "spot" and this random car decides to come in like that.
He finally decides to come out of the car and says "Hey whats up my names Leonardo and I'm new in town, Are these your guys rides?" "Yes." replied Johnny. "Well ha they are nothing compared to my limited edition." said Leo. Woody just about almost socked him in the face when...
...Pedro comes in. (Pedro is a friend of Woody and Johnny). Pedro was kind of the leader of the whole little car club the town had. He tells the guys to stop and that they are going to settle this little argument in a "Fun" way. They all wonder what he means by "fun." Pedro says they are going to have a race.
The cars lined up at the starting line. They started pressing on the gas and started their engines.3...2...1...Go! Off they went.
The boys were going around and over hills and it was a close race. You couldn't really tell who was going to win. Suddenly, this bright purple car comes in front of all the guys. Woody then starts to lose control of the wheel because he got distracted. He then says "uh-oh."
Woody ran into a bright pink trash can and was unable to keep on driving any further. He was okay. He just had some injuries. The thing that hurt him the most was that he couldn't prove his car was the best and got embarrassed since he was running his mouth before the race was even planned.
Meanwhile here we still have this random car in the lead. Leo is shortly behind but he doesn't catch up in time. This purple car has crossed the finish line and beats all the guys at the race. They have all been beat and are so curious to know who this mysterious driver could be.
When they all turn off their cars the person steps out of the car and it appears to be a girl. Shocked by this Leo and Johnny ask for her name. "Hey there, my name is Minnie and I was just trying to find the supermarket around this place. I saw you guys were having a little race and I decided to join in. I hope it wasn't a big deal. " Johnny ,Leo ,and crippled Woody just laugh and realize they shouldn't fight over who has a better car(because they obviously are embarassed a girl beat them). They became close friends and swore to never to tell anyone they got beat by a girl.

How to hold a DSLR:
- A DSLR is a digital camera that uses mirrors to direct light from the lens to the viewfinder, which is a hole on the back of the camera that you look through to see what you are taking a picture of.
Exposure-
- Exposure is the amount of light collected by the sensor in your camera during a single picture.
- If the shot is exposed too long the photograph will be washed out.
- If the shot is exposed too short the photograph will appear too dark.
- Almost all cameras today have light meters which measure the light in the given shot and set an ideal exposure.
- The three primary controls your camera uses for exposure are aperture, shutter speed, and ISO.
Aperture in a camera:
- Simply put, aperture is a whole within a lens, through which light travels into the camera body.
- It is easier to understand the concept if you just think about our eyes. Every camera that we know of today is designed like human eyes.
Size of Aperture- Large versus small Aperture:
- In photography , aperture is expressed in f-numbers (ex:f/5.6). These f-numbers that are known as “f-stops” are a way of describing the size of the aperture,or how open or closed the aperture is.
- A smaller f-stop means a larger aperture,while a larger f-stop means a smaller aperture. For example, f/1.4 is larger than f/2.0 and much larger than f/8.0
Aperture Basics:
- Small apertures (high f/numbers ie f/22)increase the depth of the field, bringing both the main subject and background into focus.
- Large apertures (low f/numbers ie f/2.8) soften background details.
- Depth of the field (DOF) is the distance to which objects behind and in front of the focal point appear to be in focus.
Shutter Speed:
- Shutter speed, also known as “exposure time”, stands for the length of time a camera shutter is open to expose light into the camera sensor.
- If the shutter speed is fast, it can help to freeze action completely.
- If the shutter speed is slow, it can create an effect called “motion blur” where moving objects appear blurred.
How shutter speed is measured:
- Shutter speed are typically measured in fractions of a second, when they are under a second.
- For ex: ¼ means a quarter of a second
Rule of thumb for shutter speed:
- The slowest shutter speed for handheld photography is 1/60. Anything lower then that should either be on a tripod or on a straight, solid surface.
- Any slower handheld shutter speed begins to get motion blur and your photograph may be out of focus.
ISO:
- ISO is the level of sensitivity of your camera to available light.
- The lower ISO number, the less sensitive it is to the light, while a higher ISO number increases the sensitivity of your camera.
- The componet within your camera that can change sensitivity is called “image sensor” or simply “sensor”.
- With increased sensitivity, your camera sensor can capture images in low light enviorments without having you use a flash. But higher sensitivity comes to an it adds grain or “noise” to the pictures.
General rule of thumb:
- Bright and sunny,100 iso
- Cloudy,250 iso
- Indoors, 500 iso
- Night time without a flash, 1600 iso
Modes on the DSLR:
- M-Manual control over aperture and shutter
- A-Aperture Priority
- S-Shutter Priority
- P-(program)Camera sets shutter speed and aperture
How to hold a DSLR:
- Have the camera strap around your neck at all times
- Hold the camera by the lens and hand grip if possible-treat with care!

After watching a short clip on Camera Obscura
August 29,2016
For my Surrealistic Self Portrait, I decided to take a photo of me holding a Polaroid camera. I thought it would be neat to have my eyes pop out from the little holes because I liked how it was just another little detail to the picture. I also liked how the camera kind of was an outline of my face too. I usually get complimented for my eye color because sometimes they have a weird green color or they are hazel sometimes so that's why I did that detail too. I took this photo outside my house because this is where I spend most of my time (besides school and church). I am do enjoy being in my house because I get to relax and just be myself without anyone judging me for who I am. I get to just forget and shut out all the negativity that this world has. It's my safe haven and I just love being here relaxed with my family. I think this selfie shows how I love to take pictures with my antique Polaroid camera. I actually decided to take this picture also because I thought it would be cute and just the thought sounded cool. I have my eyes open in this picture because I am always seeing the world through my eyes and I see the beauty and scary things it has. My middle school teacher said “Always keep your eyes wide open,” and I have always carried those words with me and that is why this picture means so much to me.
Everything on this image symbolizes me. I manipulated this picture on pixLr. I actually took this photo during the night time because that's my favorite time of the day. Where you can sit back and enjoy watching tv or looking up at the stars and just imagining or thinking of things that pop in your head. I added the blue color to symbolize the night time and darkness of the sky and the moon and stars just to add more detail. In addition, I added the sparkles to symbolize the stars shining bright in the night. I have a red shirt on to symbolize love. I've always dreamed of having a magical wedding and have a happy ever after.
